Drowning into 'see'

An ocean of confusion swallows me whole,
Naked mind, body cold.

Screaming, swallowing, dying for breath.
The irony, I was praying for death.

Eyes blurry, the salts burn through.
Nostrils filled and the wind pipe too.

“Neck above the water”, I tell myself.
But tides pull and underwater I dwell.

Legs both cramped, abdomen feels absent.
I drown.

Pulled further down, something special I see.
I’m swimming underwater, I wonder, “How could it be?”.

Vision clear, legs un-cramped.
I see a creature prancing around.

How do you do that?, I ask in speech.
“How do you moonwalk with no ground beneath?”

It says - “Simple my love, you fail to see,
You’re underwater, you’re all you can be.”

I looked around and then I realise -
Evolution spaced out time.

The gills on my sides are proof to me.
This dreamland we’re in, we’re free to leave.

Knitting my socks underwater!!!

A few days later, I swim back to shore.
Merry men and ‘friends’, seemed like a bore.

The peril, the horror and the spectacle that followed.
Killed inside me, all the pain I had swallowed.

Counting my steps, I look back at the sea.
7, 8, 9…. 10… I can’t seem to leave.

As much as it killed, one part of me.
Drowning indeed, could the only way be.

To witness the beauty that with many others I’d fail to share…
A private paradise, the watery lair..
